A comment on Tobacco Makers Sue U.S. over Free Speech

It has to cost them money, but really how is it different then any other regulation? What about the restriction on advertising overall and the loss of the jingle? Seems odd that this would be the issue they would sure over. Do they have some litigation budget they aren't using?

A comment on Free Drug Samples: Does it Really Benefit a Patient?

The economic issues is a very interesting one. I wonder how much of the State or federal coverage comes into play as a reason why the poor would be treated differently. I could see it acting as a good and bad thing. Charge them because you can vs don't use the expensive ones because it won't be paid in the long run. The documentation is always a great concern and an easy thing for the defense to point out as being absent.

A comment on Inadequate Staffing Takes its Toll in Health Care Industry

It's not just the nursing industry. We see staffing in many areas where hospitals are overworking staff and not realizing that more staff actually helps them achieve their goals. We're geared mainly towards financial areas, but our consultants can see other areas lacking in sufficient staffing as well.

A comment on Texting While Driving-A New Study Shows How Dangerous it is

This is a BIG problem in our society. Texting while driving is obviously negligent, but so is the use of a cell phone when driving. However less distracting is not the issue. The fact that it is distracting is the issue. There should be a law encompassing all digital devices to be illegal to operate by the driver of an automobile. There are now laptops embedded in dashboards. Who is to say one is worse than the other with any accuracy. All digital devices are causing accidents nationwide every single day. If people need directions, they need to stop the vehicle to compute, communicate, or text. Convenience will still live.

A comment on Chantix - A Cure Worse Than the Disease?

I am a 33 year old male who smoked for 20 years. No matter the side effects, Chantix is worth trying. I took it for 6 weeks and then one day I just decided I didn't want a cigarette on the way to work. I haven't had one in 4 weeks. Chantix is a miracle drug, truly. I now stand a chance to watch my 8 month old baby girl grow up and possibly grow old. I didn't even have any willpower, it really makes you not want to smoke. Chantix tells you to pick a quit date 10 days or so after you start taking it. Don't listen to that, take it until you stop smoking. Honestly, I gave up on it. I was only taking the drug to make my wife happy. The only side effects I had were mild nausea for 20 min after taking a pill and lucid dreams. Not nightmares, I just remembered my dreams more. Plus the nausea was a nice touch on the way to work, I really didn't want a cig then :)

A comment on Inadequate Staffing Takes its Toll in Health Care Industry

Nurses in VA are grossly underpaid as well. I think that is pretty much everywhere. We are overworked, underpaid , understaffed, abused, disrespected (also by our peers) and held responsible for everything that goes wrong. We ARE the lifeline of patients. MD's would not make it without Nurses. All States should have regulations addressing staffing. The bottom line today is not only with Nurses but with the Facilities, Doctors, Drug Companies etc. Care of the patient has gone away.I don't see this changing. If Obama gets his wish, we can say goodbye to good healthcare, let alone baseline healthcare and jobs. Maybe that is a rescue for me, because I am way beyond burned out. How can I recommend Nursing as a profession to anyone with the above description of treatment of Nurses. Life is too short for such a miserable profession!

A comment on Baseball's Maple Bat Controversy - Does Someone Have to Die?

Thanks for the comment Mike. Some people believe that the exploding bats are just "part of the game," like a foul ball. That's hogwash though.

At the other extreme, more and more analysts agree they should give up wood bats all together and adopt comparable aluminum bats. I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do, but it's something to consider.
