Tim Tucker, 50, a popular outdoor sports writer, loved by many, was tragically killed in a three - car accident Monday. The accident occured on Interstate 75, reports Florida Highway Patrol.

Tucker was senior writer for Bassmaster Magazine and B.A.S.S. Times and a columnist with The Gainesville Sun. He has also written more than seven books on fishing and has been featured on many national television shows.

"He was one of our most popular writers in terms of readership," said Sun sports editor Arnold Feliciano. "He was a great guy to work with. Whatever we needed, I would just call him up -- whether it had to do with fishing or outdoors or hunting."

Dave Precht, senior director of Bass Publications, said in a written statement that Tucker was "more than just a co-worker and contributor. He was family."

"He was passionate about the sport of bass fishing, and was one of its greatest advocates. We are devastated by this loss," Precht said.
