Shir Toothpaste Recalled Over Dangerous Ingredient

Gold City Enterprise LLC has issued a product recall for their Shir brand of toothpaste. The toothpaste was manufactured in China and has been found to contain diethylene glycol. Diethylene glycol is found in antifreeze and can cause liver and kidney damage.

The recalled toothpaste brands are Shir Fresh Mint Fluoride, Shir Fresh Ice Shir Mint Fluoride and Shir Fresh Cool Shir Mint Fluoride. Consumers were asked to stop using the products and throw them away, or return them to the stores where they bought them.

The Hallandale-based company asked retailers to examine inventories and notify customers about the recall.

The FDA had issued an earlier warning to consumers to not use any toothpaste manufactured in China. Diethylene glycol is being used in place of the sweetner glycerin because it is cheaper.
