The King Can Do No Wrong - Immunity For Gun Manufacturers

When there were kings and subjects nobody could mess with the king. Sovereign Immunity was the rule of the land. You could sue your neighbor or a business or a manufacturer, but you could never,sue the king. He could do no wrong. Soon our government will bestow upon gun manufacturers immunity from suit for acts of negligence. Once again, the king can do no wrong.

Once upon a time when the king was really king and subjects were really subjects, nobody could mess with the king. Sovereign Immunity was the rule of the land. You could sue your neighbor or a business or a manufacturer, but you could never, ever sue the king. He could do no wrong.

Then the subjects overthrew the king. They elected presidents and legislators. But, the government liked the idea of Sovereign Immunity and kept repeating, "We can do no wrong." To which the subjects responded, "But you are killing and injuring people - we should have the right to sue you for your misdeeds." And, the government gave in, and said "Ok, already, you can have a limited right to sue the government." All was relatively just in the land.

Meanwhile, businesses and manufacturers courted the government. The courtship was long and deep and very affectionate. Government began to listen to some businesses and manufacturers much more than it listened to its subjects. It heard the continuous lament that the subjects were bringing too many lawsuits about defective products. "We need to put a stop to this," was the cry.

Suddenly, a new idea was born. Sovereign Immunity for businesses and manufacturers.

Soon, very soon, our government will bestow upon gun manufacturers immunity from suit for acts of negligence. Once again, the king can do no wrong.
