The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that companies must stop distributing and manufacturing unapproved suppository drug products that contain the ingredient trimethobenzamide hydrocholoride.

These drugs are used to treat nausea and vomiting in children and adults. Drugs that contain trimethobenzamide in suppository form are lacking proof of effectiveness. These drug products have been marketed under several different names: Tigan, Tebamide, T-Gen, Trimazide and Trimethobenz.

The FDA is urging all consumers who use suppositories containing trimethobenzamide, to contact their medical doctor with any questions or concerns.

There are several approved alternative products on the market that can effectively treat nausea and vomiting. They are available in many different forms including capsules, injections, tablets and suppositories. Many oral capsules and injectable products that contain trimethobenzamide have been approved by the FDA and they are not included in the recall.
