Two Die in Inverness Motorcycle Accident

Two people died from their injuries after being involved in a motorcycle accident in Inverness on Sunday night. A 19-year-old Marine on leave from Iraq was taking his 16-year-old friend for a motorcycle ride.

The two crashed into a pick up truck pulling a trailer at North Croft Avenue and East Dawson Drive.

Both riders were ejected from the motorcycle and were taken to Citrus Memorial Hospital. Neither was wearing a helmet when they crashed.

According to Florida law anyone under the age of 18 must wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle. The driver and passenger in the pick-up truck were not hurt in the accident. A police officer was attempting to pull over the motorcycle prior to the accident. The officer reported that the motorcycle was going 80 mph.

Motorcycle Driver Killed in Tampa Accident

A 54-year-old man driving his motorcycle in Tampa was killed when he was hit by a car. The motorcycle accident happened last night.

The victim

of North Edison Street was westbound on West Waters Avenue on his Harley Davidson motorcycle when an eastbound Mercedes pulled in front of him to turn onto Ola Avenue.

The victim was hit head on and died on the scene. The driver of the Mercedes has had other traffic violations and the Tampa Police Department called him a Habitual Traffic Offender. He has been charged with driving while license suspended involving death.

Tampa Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident

A motorcycle accident killed a man in Tampa early Saturday morning. The 44-year-old victim was a resident of Tampa.

The victim

was traveling west on Hillsborough Ave. on his 2005 Yamaha at approximately 1:35 a.m. when he came up on the Veteran's Expressway intersection. Dean was about to turn left when a 1995 Ford Escort station wagon ran a red light and hit the motorcycle.

He was not wearing a helmet and was killed instantly. The driver of the car was believed to be driving under the influence of alcohol. She suffered minor injuries. She has been charged with DUI Manslaughter.

Man Injured in St. Petersburg Motorcycle Accident

A motorcycle accident in St. Petersburg on Thursday injured a 41-year-old man. The bike flipped over while he was driving it from a parking lot into the connecting street. The accident happened on 46th Avenue North around 5:15 p.m.

The victim

of St. Petersburg was thrown from the 2002 Harley-Davidson Softail, the Highway Patrol said. He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with serious injuries.

The man was not wearing a helmet, which may have prevented some of his injuries. There is no law in Florida mandating helmet use when driving a motorcycle if you are over the age of 21 or have insurance for motorcycle accident injuries with minimum medical benefit coverage of $10,000. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration helmets reduce fatal motorcycle injuries by 29 percent.

Brandon Motorcyclist Killed by Drunk Driver

The holiday season is once again upon us as is the rise in drunk driving accidents and fatalities around the Bay area. This morning we're unfortunately hearing about a yound motorcyclist from Brandon who lost his life as a result of an auto accident with a drunk driver. Motorcyclists are more vulnerable to serious injury in a car accident especially when that accident involves an impaired driver. As holiday parties ramp up and drinking also rises, be smart and think ahead. Use a designated driver, call a taxi, spend the night where you are. What ever you do don't drink and drive.

Ridgewood High School Senior Dies in Motorcycle Accident

A 17-year-old Senior at Ridgewood High School died in a motorcycle accident on Thursday night. He was driving the motorcycle and a 16-year-old girl was a passenger on the bike at the time of the accident. The motorcycle accident took place in Port Richey. The motorcycle was driving on U.S. 19 going north.

The driver of the car

was westbound on Commons Boulevard in a 1993 Honda when she stopped at a stop sign at U.S. 19.

The motorcycle drove into the side of the car. The passenger on the motorcycle was taken to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries. Her condtion is not known.

Motorcycle Accident Ends in Tragic Death

Joseph K. Wright, a young man with extended family from Tampa, passed away last week during a motorcycle accident on the way to Key West. He was 36 years old.

Joe Wright and his father Ed had left work last Friday to ride down to the Keys, and Joe had placed a sweatshirt on the seat of his cycle to cushion the ride. Somewhere along the trip, the sweatshirt became tangled up in the rear spokes of the motorcycle, which caused Mr. Wright to fall into a skid before being thrown from his bike. He was subsequently run over by two motorcars, one of which did not stop. According to reports, Joe was not wearing a helmet to protect his head.

This tragic motorcycle accident underscores the importance of wearing helmets while riding a motorcycle. A message to all motorcycle enthusiasts - please wear your helmet.

Another Motorcyclist Killed on I-275 in Fatal Crash

A 29-year old motorcyclist speeding across the Howard Frankland Bridge in Tampa, Florida, lost control of his bike at nearly 100 mph and slammed into the concrete barrier along the side of the interstate, catapulting him into Tampa Bay.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, Scottie Ewing was travelling in the outside lane of I-275 on the Howard Frankland Bridge before midnight when he lost control of his 2003 Honda.

Ewing's motorcycle smashed against the concrete barriers before throwing him into the water, where rescuers retrieved Ewing's body. This unfortunate accident is not unlike another recent Tampa accident in which a University of Tampa student was killed on a motorcycle because of excessive speed.

Tampa Motorcycle Accident Kills Man

A man was riding his motorcycle near the intersection of Leila Street and Westshore Boulevard when he hit a car and was killed. The motorcycle accident happened on Sunday in Tampa.

Tampa police say the motorcyclist rear-ended a car, and was thrown off his bike. They say he landed after hitting a pole.

The motorcycle driver was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Helmets are not required by law in Florida. The condition of the driver of the car is unknown.

Tampa Motorcycle Accident Kills Two

Two people out for an evening ride on a motorcycle in Tampa got into a fatal accident with a minivan on Monday. The motorcycle accident happened on Morris Bridge Road. The motorcycle drove into the minivan.

The Harley Davidson collided with the van, killing two on the bike, and leaving the mother driving the minivan in critical condition.

There were three other people in the minivan, a man and two children. They were all injured but nothing serious. They were taken to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
