Wrongful Death Suit Filed After High School Death

The parents of a high school football player have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Henderson county school board and others that they feel are responsible for their son's death. The 16-year-old died after football practice in full gear on a very hot day.

New filings in the suit that revealed the damage requests were filed Friday in response to questions from the defense. A medical examiner's report concluded Owens suffered from a rare heart defect that had been exacerbated by the heat.
The documents filed Friday by Owens' family allege the school's athletic officials were slow in summoning medical.

The family is asking for $17 Million in the lawsuit. The teenager died on July 19, 2006.
